Additional Mileage
Additional mileage charge is applied to your invoice when you exceed the "Included Mileage" on your trip. Your charges are calculated per km on your excess mileage.
Late Return fee
If you return the rental 30 minutes to 2 hours late, a late return fee will apply. This fee is equal to half of your total daily trip cost, which includes your trip fee, insurance, and any extras you selected.
If you return the rental over 2 hours late, a late return fee will apply. This fee is equal to your total daily trip cost, which includes your trip fee, insurance, and any extras you selected.
Return the car on time. Don’t keep your Host waiting!
Cleaning violation fee
Tarlen charges a cleaning violation fee of R400 if the car is not returned in the same condition as when you picked it up. In cases of significant abuse or misuse, Tarlen reserves the right to suspend or permanently remove your account.
Smoking Violation fee
Smoking in a rental is strictly prohibited and subject to a fine. If your Host provides evidence of smoking, a fine of R1000 will be charged, and you will be permanently removed from Tarlen.
Dispute resolution fee
Tarlen provides both you and your Host with the tools to request reimbursement and resolve any issues directly.
If you and your Host cannot reach an agreement, the request can be escalated to Tarlen. In such cases, Tarlen will charge a dispute resolution fee of 5% of the claim.
No fee is charged if the issue is resolved directly between you and your Host.
Traffic Fine or e-toll administration fee
If your Host receives a traffic ticket for an offence committed while you had the vehicle, they may send a reimbursement request for the fine or nominate you as the driver responsible.
If the Host pays the fine and escalates the reimbursement request to Tarlen, a dispute resolution fee of 5% will be applied.
No-show fee
A no-show occurs when you fail to arrive at the pickup or delivery location at the start of your trip without providing prior notice of any changes to your plans.
Hosts are required to wait for 30 minutes after the trip’s scheduled start time. If you do not show up within this window, the Host has the right to report you as a no-show.

For trips lasting 3 days or less, a no-show fee equal to the cost of a 1-day trip will be charged.
For trips lasting 4 days or more, a no-show fee equal to the average cost of 2-days will be charged.
The remaining balance of the trip price, insurance fees, and any add-on fees will be refunded to you.
Cancellation fee
You can cell your trip for free if you do it 24hrs before the start of a trip. If you're booking your trip less than 24hrs before the start time, you can cancel within an hour of making the booking.
If your cancellation does not meet these requirements, you'll be charged a cancellation fee.
For trips lasting 3 days or less, a cancellation fee equal to the cost of a 1-day trip will be charged.
For trips lasting 4 days or more, a cancellation fee equal to the average cost of 2-days will be charged.
The remaining balance of the trip price, insurance fees, and any add-on fees will be refunded to you.
Fuel re-up convenience fee
If you return your rental without refuelling, your Host will refuel it and charge you for the fuel cost as a reimbursement. Additionally, a convenience fee of R300 may be added to cover the refuelling process.
If this charges are disputed and escalated to admin, a dispute resolution fee will charged when the issue is resolved.
