We initially launched the Tarlen Carsharing platform in the Western Cape in 2024 to an overwhelmingly positive reception from car owners and renters across the province. This success led to thousands of app downloads and signups, hundreds of cars listed, and a surge in bookings.

During this period, we also received countless requests from other provinces—both from renters eager to access cars and from car owners excited to list their vehicles on Tarlen. Inspired by this incredible response, we made the decision to start rolling out Tarlen to all the major cities across South Africa.

We’re rolling out Tarlen one city at a time to ensure we can meet the growing demand from renters and car owners in every location before expanding to new areas.

Our rollout plan is fueled by community input—cities with the most requests get prioritized. So, if Tarlen isn’t in your area yet, or if it’s available but you’re not finding the perfect car, let us know!

Tarlen doesn't place any limitations for traveling within the country neither can you host. However, if you're travelling across country borders, you're required to have your host's permission and also let the Tarlen team know about it.

With Tarlen, you’re free to explore and travel anywhere within the country—there are no limitations for domestic trips. However, if you're travelling across country borders, you’ll need your host’s permission. Additionally, be sure to inform the Tarlen team about your plans so we can assist you with any requirements or support for your journey.
